The Queensland Government have awarded me a Smart Futures PhD Scholarship to study the psychology behind fingerprint identification with Dr Jason Tangen [UQ Media Release]. I will investigate the perceptual and cognitive processes underlying identification of complex visual patterns, such as fingerprints. My research will provide tools, techniques and training methods to aid professionals in correctly identifying forensic evidence. Awards were presented at ‘Science in Parliament’ by Professor Peter Andrews (Queensland Chief Scientist) and Hon. Geoff Wilson (Minister for Education and Training).
